About Kaitlyn

My Story

I started singing at super young age, as soon as I could make sound. I LOVED singing - I loved expressing myself through singing, I loved belting, I loved everything about singing. I stopped singing around middle school because I thought it was β€œweird” (the irony now, right?). I eventually took choir in high school, ON ACCIDENT. I was signed up for a Microsoft Word & Excel class and decided to switch classes, and choir was my only option out. I rolled my eyes and decided to go with it despite my hesitation. I guess my inner-Kaitlyn knew that was something I actually enjoyed and my heart needed, but had shame around singing that I hadn’t yet worked through. How grateful I am for her, though.

I had FOUND my place and my people.

So, I fell in love with choir in high school and back in love with singing. So much, that I decided to go to school to study classical voice and become a teacher. In many ways- singing has changed and saved my life. I absolutely LOVED singing in college and had SO many beautiful, wonderful, and musical experiences that shaped me into the teacher, artist, and person I am. I had the luxury of having THE best and most amazing voice teachers who continue to inspire me and now get to collaborate with! I performed in various operas, worked for amazing directors, and had coachings with renowned musicians from Julliard.

I became a confident, classical singer, but felt limited.

As a classical singer studying performance and education, I mostly sang, well, classical music and opera. I was tired of being told that β€œbelting was bad for me” (because it’s just not true) and that I could only sing opera if I wanted to make it or sing β€œhealthily” (no such thing). I was tired of feeling stuck and self-conscious about my singing and performing. It was not until I became certified in Level I of Somatic Voiceworkβ„’ The LoVetri Method with Jeannie LoVetri that my eyes and heart opened to CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music).

I really found it.

There was a whole WORLD of music and pedagogies of teaching Contemporary Commercial Music that I was not privy to as a classical singer. Often as classical musicians, we are taught that classical music is the best and most prestigious form of making music. Boy, were they WRONG, and how problematic is that? In the same breath, I was always taught to sing β€œhealthily”. (What did that even mean?!) Now, thanks to research, we know that that the ideology behind β€œhealthy singing” is rooted in racism, and that doesn’t fly here or in CCM land. While I still LOVED (and LOVE!) singing classically, my heart JUMPS to sing musical theatre, pop, and commercial music. Best part?

I can and get to teach ALL OF IT.

Now, I get to do my FAVORITE thing. I get to help singers heal, grow, and find confidence in their voices again - in WHATEVER genre they want to sing, without limitations.

I get to share my love for vocal health, vocal anatomy, and as an Evidence Based Voice Teacher,

I use real science and data to help you find sustainability in your vocal instrument.
